Like most young actresses, her first parts were small, but eventually a role in KENTUCKY (1938) brought her to the attention of moviegoers everywhere. Perhaps best known for her academy award winning role in THE FARMER'S DAUGHTER (1947) she also enchanted us with her performance in THE BISHOP'S WIFE.
